“Spooky Bed & Breakfasts The Whole Year Through"

Magnolia Mansion Featured in www.NY1.com October 2006

Bed and Breakfasts are such inviting places to stay that some guests just never want to leave. NY1 visits a few that may not allow you to rest in peace.

Many B& B's are so cozy that lots of people request a late checkout. Some never leave at all, if you believe the ghost stories told by the folks at www.bedandbreakfast.com. It claims at least 75 of its 6,000 inns have reported eerie experiences, while many others stay mum for fear of scaring guests away.

To increase your likelihood of seeing an apparition, then check into a place such as the Magnolia Mansion in New Orleans. Many guests have reported meeting friendly ghosts when they stay in the room known as the Vampire's Lair.

MAGNOLIA MANSION is featured on the 3pm HAUNTED HISTORY'S GARDEN DISTRICT GHOST TOUR. Also featured is the home where the famous Vampire Novelist Anne Rice lived up until recently.  After the death of her husband, Anne Rice pulled up stakes and moved to neighboring Kenner. But her lavender Greek Revival/Italianate home-the setting for her novel The Witching Hour-still drawing visitors (1239 First St.), as is her other Garden District Property, St. Elizabeth’s Orphanage (1314 Napoleon Ave.), now slated for condominiums. They offer daily walking tours in Garden District, with costumed guides relating historical spooky tales.

HAUNTED FINE DINING EXPERIENCE:: Open since 1918, ARNOUL(504- 861-2727) offers daily walking tours of the French Quarter and Garden District, with costumed guides relating historical spooky tales. Our recommendations: the 8pm French Quarter Ghost Tour or the 8:30pm vampire tour. DS (813 Bienville St.) claims many ghost sightings, including that of the founder, “Count” Arnaud Cazzenave, in the main dining room. Workman have also encountered the Count’s eccentric daughter, Germain Wells, in the upstairs Mardi Gras Museum. Truth or tall tale? We asked the owner’s daughter, Katy Casbarian, who said, “Oh, God, yes. I don’t go up to the Mardi Gras Museum by myself.

  • 5/17/09 – "Call Magnolia Mansion for a ghostly good time! What a treat it was- an eye opening experience to explore each room and find the different “personality ghost” that reside here. Our paranormal package exceeded my expectations from having a meal blessed by a Voodoo Priestess, the walking tours, tarot card reading, to the many sharing of ghost stories. Thank you, Thank you Hollie and Tim."

  • 7/12/09 - "we stayed in the Vamps Bordello room; our room was very romantic and cozy. However we did have a friendly ghost encounter during our stay. Friday night when we went to bed my husband and I placed our shoes in the closet (total of 6 pairs) when we woke up the next morning one of my flip flops was in the bathroom. The other one was placed underneath our bed. Saturday night: we bought a 19th century antique piece (ladies of the crescent moon) the piece weighted approximately 40 pounds. Before bed I placed the piece (statue) on our table in our room. The table is of metal construction, around 3 or 4 am my husband and I awakened to a noise. It sounded as if a piece of furniture was being drug across the hard wood floors. We looked around and seen nothing. Approximately 4hours later the alarm went off and we both look at our statue. The statue was placed vertical on the table before bed. The statue was now faced completely sideways. My husband and I turned the statue back into its previous position in order to see if that was the dragging noise we were awakened to, and it was! Once again my shoes were misplaced one brown shoe was tucked in between 2 pillows that were placed on the floor from the bed and another black shoe at the foot of the bed! Saturday I also awakened and found both pillows stacked neatly at the end of the bed. Pillow belonging the mansion, belonging to me (tempur pedic pillow) my pillow weighs about 5 pounds. The pillow is used for medical purposes, that is why I woke up looking for my pillow. The spirits were friendly and almost as if they were children. We loved the mansion the owner and Tim were incredible to meet."

  • "Hey Hollie, Have you ever seen anything like this? Roberta & I were walking back from the little collection of stores at the end of your street. We had found some great items to take home with us on Sunday. It was getting late and the bags were heavy with all the things we just bought, so we decided to head back to the house, drop off the bags and call a cab to go to dinner. While we were waiting out front, I decided to take some pictures of Roberta standing in front of MM. It was about 6pm, the night was clear and there wasn't anyone around us.  The first picture was a mistake, the camera just went off in my hands; the second was the intended shot. We've had several professional photographers examine the pictures and the negatives and none can come up with any kind of explanation other than, what you see is in the picture. Whatever was there was captured on those two frames. Creepy "and" cool!  Take care and best wishes,"

  • "Hollie, just a quick note to say "Thank you" for your wonderful hospitality. We had a great time and will be definitely be back. But we also wanted to share with you something incredible. Today as we were reviewing our pictures of the entry hall we noticed 2 orbs in the picture. Since we take digital pictures we know there is no film flaw nor can we see anything else in the hallway that would make a reflection in the round shape. We are certain they are some of the spirits of the house who have let themselves known. Since we didn't get a visit from one while we were there (although we still think the cell phone alarm was the spirit having fun with us), maybe they wanted us to know that they really are there. We've attached the photo so you can see for yourself.  Once again, thank you. Warmest regards" -
    Chuck and Kathy
  • "Here's a photo for your ghost collection-This was taken no flash daytime!!!! Spooky!!! Take care of my home away from home!!!!"  NOTE: Looks like a Man's Bearded Face under the chandelier to the right. You can clearly see the cheek bones, nose, mouth, beard & shape of a face...with a shadow form behind it!!!
  • "Hollie, First of all thank you so much for making our trip to New Orleans so wonderful. I don't know if you remember, but when we came back from the Cemetery Tour with Mary on 12/8/03, Jim took pictures of the Christmas lights that had just been put up at the Mansion that day. In the picture there are four orbs. I also got a picture of the orb in the cemetery that was Emily. We also forgot to tell you, that evening when we got back to our room we couldn't get the TV to stay on. It would stay on for about 10 minutes then just click off. The next morning, there was no problem what so ever with the TV. Do you think Emily followed us back from the Cemetery?"
    Barbara Robinson, Jim Rivera
  • We just spent the weekend in your mansion. We had a great time & took many pictures. I am attaching a photo that shows something you may want to see (See orbs above). Please let me know what you think about this. These were taken with a digital camera.
