“Spooky Bed & Breakfasts The Whole Year Through"
Magnolia Mansion Featured in www.NY1.com October 2006
Bed and Breakfasts are such inviting places to stay that some guests just never want to leave. NY1 visits a few that may not allow you to rest in peace.
Many B& B's are so cozy that lots of people request a late checkout. Some never leave at all, if you believe the ghost stories told by the folks at www.bedandbreakfast.com. It claims at least 75 of its 6,000 inns have reported eerie experiences, while many others stay mum for fear of scaring guests away.
To increase your likelihood of seeing an apparition, then check into a place such as the Magnolia Mansion in New Orleans. Many guests have reported meeting friendly ghosts when they stay in the room known as the Vampire's Lair.
MAGNOLIA MANSION is featured on the 3pm HAUNTED HISTORY'S GARDEN DISTRICT GHOST TOUR. Also featured is the home where the famous Vampire Novelist Anne Rice lived up until recently. After the death of her husband, Anne Rice pulled up stakes and moved to neighboring Kenner. But her lavender Greek Revival/Italianate home-the setting for her novel The Witching Hour-still drawing visitors (1239 First St.), as is her other Garden District Property, St. Elizabeth’s Orphanage (1314 Napoleon Ave.), now slated for condominiums. They offer daily walking tours in Garden District, with costumed guides relating historical spooky tales.
HAUNTED FINE DINING EXPERIENCE:: Open since 1918, ARNOUL(504- 861-2727) offers daily walking tours of the French Quarter and Garden District, with costumed guides relating historical spooky tales. Our recommendations: the 8pm French Quarter Ghost Tour or the 8:30pm vampire tour. DS (813 Bienville St.) claims many ghost sightings, including that of the founder, “Count” Arnaud Cazzenave, in the main dining room. Workman have also encountered the Count’s eccentric daughter, Germain Wells, in the upstairs Mardi Gras Museum. Truth or tall tale? We asked the owner’s daughter, Katy Casbarian, who said, “Oh, God, yes. I don’t go up to the Mardi Gras Museum by myself.
